August 1, 2024: Community Meeting #1 Recap
March 14, 2024: The Wellfleet Selectboard and the Maurice’s Planning Committee are very pleased to announce the selection of a strong team of Architects, Community Planners, Engineers, and Financial Analysts to provide master planning services for the 21.25 acres known
as Maurice’s Campground. The proposal selected is that of Studio G Architects of Jamaica Plain and Wellfleet. Gail Sullivan, managing principal of Studio G also designed Lawerence Hill Affordable rentals in Wellfleet which will soon begin construction. “The Planning Committee was very impressed with the completeness, creativity, and enthusiasm expressed in the Studio G proposal and the interview session that followed,” states Ryan Curley, Chair of the Committee. Sullivan will lead a team that also includes JM Goldson for community engagement, Langan Engineering for site planning, and Boston Communities for financial feasibility. During the application period, the RFP was open to anyone requesting it, and interested parties were required to register with the Assistant Town Manager so that any relevant information could be sent to all those considering applying. Click here to see the Request for Proposals (RFP) for Master Planning Services for Maurice’s Campground.
Here is the next step: The committee will carefully consider each proposal according to the procedures stated in the RFP. Stay tuned! We will do our best to keep the community informed and engaged.

NOTE: This version is old and has been replaced by a new FAQ.May 31, 2023: The Maurice's Planning Committee on May 24th, 2023 voted unanimously and reluctantly to pull the RFP for Master planning services. We plan to re-issue the RFP after the fall special town meeting. There is no issue with the RFP. However, there are issues with the town's ability to proceed with the work at this time.
The loss of key staff and the failure of the Housing Coordinator position leaves the town in a position where it cannot provide the resources necessary to facilitate the planning process. There remains work that needs to be done on initiatives and projects currently underway that have been provided by departed or departing staff. The planning committee hopes the town will be better positioned to reissue the RFP in the fall, optimally after the special town meeting. To read the full press release, click here.
April 27, 2023: The Town of Wellfleet is seeking sealed proposals from professional firms or teams with blended expertise in the areas of neighborhood planning, site design, architecture, affordable housing development, and community engagement, to work with the Town-appointed planning committee to create a Master Plan for the 21.5 acre site known as Maurice’s Campground which is located at 80 State Highway, Wellfleet, MA. The Town of Wellfleet is hosting the third community meeting on the proposed housing options for Maurice’s Campground, and all community members are encouraged to attend. The meeting will allow the public to engage with the evolving plans for the Maurice’s Campground.
This is a unique opportunity for the community to directly influence the future of Maurice’s Campground and contribute to addressing affordable housing needs in Wellfleet. The public’s voice is crucial as we move toward finalizing a plan that reflects our shared values and vision for the town. Wellfleet Town Officials and project planners strongly encourage residents, business owners, and all stakeholders to attend and provide feedback that will help shape the future of this important development.
Pizza will be served.

Meeting in a Box
The Wellfleet Maurice’s Campground Master Plan Steering Committee launched the Meeting-in-a-Box (MIAB) engagement tool in June 2024 and collected submissions until September 9, 2024. A total of 26 MIABs were held, reaching 138 participants. This document summarizes the main themes discussed at these sessions. MIAB is a civic engagement method in which community members are invited to host meetings with their friends, families, networks, and neighbors to share their ideas for Maurice’s Campground’s future. The project team developed a facilitation guide that took participants through seven activities to foster discussion and feedback regarding the Master Plan. Facilitators could customize their discussions to focus on the group's main interests and were welcome to complete any number (or all!) of the activities.
